U.S. government doubles down on energy performance contracts

The federal government is boosting the use of contracts to save energy that require no upfront capital costs or special appropriations from Congress.

Prime obligations for Energy Savings Performance Contracts, or ESPCs, and supporting work surged to $474.6 million in fiscal 2016, more than double the $224.1 million awarded the previous year, according to Bloomberg Government data.
